Every time I had to make important life decisions, I preferred to think carefully, research, and evaluate my options. In the end, I didn't want to make a wrong decision. The more knowledge I gained, the better my decisions would be.

Do You Also Feel This When You Need To Make Significant Decisions?

I have completely changed my perspective. Too much information and multiple choices can sometimes be a negative point, often leading to inaction.

But what does this mean?

A few years ago, I was asked to speak on national television about insects as a future and sustainable source of protein. I was very excited at first, but I soon felt anxious.

I asked myself: What if I couldn't answer all their questions? What if the program caused a big controversy I couldn't handle? And so on. So, I told the producers that I needed a few days to think about it, conduct more research in the field, and weigh the pros and cons.

You can guess what happened next. When I returned to them after several days to let them know I was ready, they had changed their minds and decided to change the subject, so they no longer needed me.

I felt disappointed and angry with myself and decided that from that day on, I would not reject any wonderful opportunity just because I needed some time. I went through several other experiences, and I achieved the greatest success in my projects and work when I threw myself into challenges and trusted my instincts and the rush of my enthusiasm. I believed that I would find a solution in the end.

Nowadays, there are many choices you can make, and honestly, having more options will not make us happier or more successful. On the contrary, having multiple options often makes us constantly question the validity of the choices we didn't make.

We also put a lot of pressure on ourselves because we must be able to choose the perfect option among several choices.

Think Less and Do More

Perfection is a Lie

As a result, we don't truly feel happy with the choice we make because there is nothing perfect, and often, we end up doing nothing because the fear of making the wrong choice paralyzes us completely.

I strongly believe that doing something in life is always better than doing nothing because you will always learn something about yourself or the world around you, even if what you do is not perfect even if it doesn't last forever.

Dedicating your whole life to a single job is so old-fashioned, so never think that you are obligated to stick with the professional decisions you made once. You never know what you will be doing in 3 to 5 years, and you should be very excited about that idea. You may stay in the current career you are in, or you may do something completely different.

Isn't this what makes life enjoyable and creates stories and memories worth cherishing throughout our lives?

In Conclusion

If you're at a major turning point in your life, for example, if you're tired of your job or have been laid off, my advice is to consider options that resonate with you, even if they don't align with your resume. Also, don't worry about making the "wrong choice" because there is no such thing.

Choosing the wrong option can teach you a lot about yourself, your strengths, and the things you love, more than you would learn by choosing the safe option alone. So, if the first attempt fails, what you've learned will make your next step much better.
