We always compare ourselves to others, and most of us suffer because of this. We compare our finances, our job, or our position at work to those of others. We observe the lives of others, forgetting ourselves.

Note: This article is from blogger Alden Tan, who talks about 5 things we should stop comparing ourselves to others.

In our modern society, we feel that we are in a constant race and that some material things control our lives. It is necessary to obtain these material things in life, but striving to obtain them and comparing yourself to others will not benefit you.

So, we find ourselves in a constant race, but life is not a race. Life revolves around finding your inner happiness, which helps you achieve your goal.

Although it is not always simple, you can begin by not comparing yourself to other people on certain issues.

Five Things You Should Not Compare to Others

Here are five things you should stop comparing to others:

1. Your current situation

You should be aware that if you are constantly wishing you were somewhere else, all you are doing is comparing your current situation to an unattainable one. You will become more bored or fearful of what you are doing right now if you keep making this comparison.

When working during business hours, you have to accept that it is out of your control and that your only option is to work. For example, if you are washing dishes at home, you will certainly feel a strong desire to be somewhere else, doing something else, but there is no point in thinking about it.

Instead, live in the moment, stop overthinking about it, get rid of all distractions, and focus on getting your work done.

2. Money

We all want and need money. It is easy to compare ourselves to those who are richer than us, but let me remind you of a common saying: "Money doesn't buy happiness." The goods we purchase or the experiences we can have with money cannot bring us happiness.

I have met many rich people who buy expensive things just to get attention. They try to buy true friendship, which certainly won't work.

Money is definitely important, but try not to chase it. You will get money as long as you are happy and doing what you love. So, appreciate the wonderful things you have in your life, like your friends, family, and house.

3. Job

We tend to believe that a person with a higher rank, a nicer office, and a higher salary is a better person, but these are not the right standards to use when assessing a job's quality.

You probably have friends who work in a high-paying job and have many great responsibilities, which is totally okay. The problem is when you think they are better than you.

You should not think this way. Whenever I hear of a friend who has a high-paying job, I always ask them how many hours they work each week and if they are content overall.

These people work for very long hours and are often so exhausted that they do not have the ability to spend the money they earn.

Therefore, you should not occupy yourself with others' jobs. Instead, think about how to find a job that you feel passionate about, and you will find joy in your work.

You can get a job with a salary that covers your essential needs if you are unable to find a job in your field of passion. Invest the rest of your time in the things that you love and enjoy, because life is too short to spend it only on daily work.

4. Popularity

You have certainly come across someone in your life who is incredibly popular, as they are constantly surrounded by friends and everyone wants to hang out with them.

However, this does not have to make you feel lonely or socially weak. The fact that so many people are around these individuals gives the impression that they are very popular, but what matters most is the quality and sincerity of a person's friendships.

People who feel the need to brag about how many people are around them actually lack confidence because they believe they are unworthy and that they need others to feel confident about themselves, even though the presence of others around them is dependent on superficial matters like wealth and appearance.

As a result, they enter into a constant cycle of creating fake friendships that clearly will not last long. So, make real friends and hold on to them through thick and thin. These are the relationships that will last a long time. Keep in mind that a few good friends are all you need.

Give yourself some private time, too. There is nothing wrong with being alone. You can delve deeper into your passion, practice meditation, discover yourself, and get to know yourself more.

5. Life in general

When you feel that you want something or that your life is not going the way you want, wishing you were someone else, you have to accept that this is your life and your reality. Your distinct memories, which in turn shape your personality, are shaped by your unique personality and experiences.

There is only one of you in the whole world, which is your strength, which no one can take away from you. Even though you might think that there is nobody to support you and that life is difficult and hard, everything you experience shapes your own life.

In Conclusion

Be patient and learn not to use the things we mentioned above to fill the void in your life, as doing so will only cause you to deteriorate. You will encounter many wonderful things that are destined for you. Believe in yourself, do what you love, enjoy life, and be happy. Your great days will inevitably come.
