Note: This article is from Erin Falconer's blog, where she shares her personal experience finding what excites her in life.
I worked long hours in a stressful environment, and the job was not satisfying or pleasant, and I felt exhausted. At the end of each week, I was unable to focus on my husband, and this led to tension in our relationship, so I had to stop to think, and I asked myself the following questions:
- What do I want in life?
- What drives me to get excited?
- What would I be willing to fight for?
I discovered that enjoying, playing, and treating life less seriously is critical to me, and I was willing to fight for everyone's freedom to explore and control their lives. Therefore, I decided to design a life that would excite me, and I began the process of exploration and experimentation.
In this article, I will present to you the steps you have taken, and if you follow this process, you will be able to find what excites you and plan your life.
5 steps to living an exciting life
1. Identify what excites you
Whenever you practice a skillfulness, you improve on it, and when you stop using this skill, you will return to normal because your mind is flexible and adapts to your needs. That is what changes you, and here's how it works:
When you perceive the world through your mind, the change in its structure can change your perspective. In short, if you stop doing what excites you, your attachment to it will weaken. To know what excites you, you need to introspect. Just look inside yourself, think about your childhood, and ask yourself: “What did you do when you were ten years old, and you could have spent hours on it?”
Write down as many activities as you can recall, and don't worry if some of them seem absurd; just make a note of them. Spend a lot of time on it, write down your list of activities, and stop using your adult brain for judgment if you want to rekindle your passion.

2. Explore
I thought I could find my passion by thinking about things, and I was wrong. Fortunately, I took some measures and began to explore. I treated exploration like a "role-playing" game and tried different roles and tasks until I found what gave me a sense of enthusiasm. Exploration is a way to turn the concept into a product, and when you find that you love games, how can you practice them in your life other than the part of play?
That is the best part, so I started exploring by writing articles about virtual reality. Through this experience, I discovered I could use my learning and analytical skills to help people and was aware of the playing part. I was always trying to find the appropriate way to use my game experience to help people create the lifestyle they want.
Once you have ideas that excite you, start exploring and try things, even if some seem irrational. All you have to do is face your fears and do what is uncomfortable, and in case of discomfort, you will learn a lot about yourself and what you can do. As you explore, your perspective will change, and you will become different.
3. Change yourself
Your motivation is high, and discipline is much easier to maintain when your activities are exciting. When you start focusing on those activities, your habits will change; you will eliminate habits you do not need and build new habits, and gradually, you will become a different person and the person you need to follow your passion.
4. Try to be a leader
Former President of the United States, John Quincy Adams, said, “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become better, then you are a leader,” then it is time to inspire others to do the same.
I tend to overthink and spend much time digging up data and analyzing everything, but I learned how to make decisions.
Thinking should always be a part of your journey and your life; however, anyone can achieve spectacular victories and live an inspiring life if they allow themselves to pursue their passion; nothing happens overnight, but if you focus on improving a little every day, you will eventually get to where you want to be, find what excites you, define your task, continue to draw your life, dream a lot, and be a source of inspiration.
King without action is meaningless, and it is time to take action, stop procrastinating, do what excites you, and try to be a leader.
5. Draw your Life
Anyone can achieve spectacular victories and live an inspiring life if they allow themselves to pursue their passion; nothing happens overnight, but if you focus on improving a little every day, you will eventually get to where you want to be, find what excites you, define your task, continue to draw your life, dream a lot, and be a source of inspiration.
