Note: This article is based on the work of Darius Foroux, in which he tells us about avoiding wasting your life.
Even though I've read that book several times, probably five or six times, this line hit me when I reread it a while ago. Are we wasting our lives pursuing all of this?
During our pursuit of things, it's simple to become so distracted that we lose sight of the truly important things, wasting our time pursuing the wrong things without even realizing it.
Even though it is okay to set goals and pursue some things in life, realize that you don't need everything you want to live a meaningful life, and here's why:
Your Identity is Not Determined by Your Goals' List
You delude yourself if you believe that doing crazy things makes your life worthwhile. Jumping from one goal to another just to mark them off your list and brag about them to others is pointless.
We buy most things, go out to parties, have adventures, take vacations, move to different cities, and change jobs, but nothing changes inside us after we do all these things.
This does not imply that you should not have a goals list, but we must realize that we can lead meaningful lives without one. Therefore, don't exert too much pressure on yourself because your life is not a motivational slogan.
When you remember that you don't need much to live happily, you can carry out your true desires without any guidance. As Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius said, “Very little is needed to make a happy life; it is all within yourself, in your way of thinking.”
Your Identity is Not Determined by Your Social Status
Our educational background, occupation, number of friends, and social media followers are all metrics we use to evaluate our own worth because in some way we feel the need to determine our position in society.
We do those things only to enhance our social media presence and add to our resume because we want to show off that we studied at that university or worked at that company. But the most important question is "Are you victorious or defeated?"
You are not superior to any other human being, regardless of your social status. People no longer care about your social status because we no longer live in the past, instead, they are interested in your personality and abilities.

Your Identity is Not Determined by Your Money
Let's face it, money is a great tool, and you can accomplish very little without it. Go ahead if you want to get away, live in the jungle, and be self-sufficient, as no one will stop you. However, you need money to survive if you want to be a part of society. The issue is that we give money more value than we should which leads us to make decisions about our lives based on our financial situation, and this is very dangerous.
Money comes and goes, so don't be depressed if you lose a lot of it in your life, and do not let money control your life as it is only a commodity. American novelist Henry Miller said, “I have no money, no resources, no hopes, but I am the happiest man alive.”
Stop Blind Pursuit
Your life will end before you even notice if you are constantly seeking the things that you believe will make you happy in the end. Our lives are long enough, as the philosopher Seneca once said, "Life, if well lived, is long enough," which goes against what most of us believe. However, if we want to live a beautiful life, we must learn to take advantage of our free time and be present.
Have you ever experienced a day where it seemed as though there was no time? No matter what you do, time moves very slowly when you are completely present, and you won't waste your life if you give it your all. On the other hand, have you ever thought, "I can't believe a whole year has passed"? On our birthdays or the last day of the year, we frequently say that phrase.
Invest in the power you have, as you can slow down the time wheel regardless of whether we refer to it as mindfulness, concentration, or full presence. Living in the present moment without worry, stress, or meaningless dreams is all that is required. If you do so, life will be long enough that time will not fly by in the blink of an eye. You're only wasting your life if you're so distracted that you can't live it.
In Conclusion
We all know in our hearts that we only have limited time to live. Additionally, we are aware that life's purpose is not in earning money, in our jobs, or in our social media posts.
We are all aware that the things we all value are things like communication, new experiences, love, relationships, sharing, and caring for others, but what matters is what we do. So, work on developing your personality, keep in mind that each day is a gift, and enjoy every moment of it whether good or bad.
