Note: This article is from blogger Evan Jarschauer, who talks about ways to overcome feelings of anxiety.

Moreover, it highlights how unwarranted fear and anxiety can drain your energy, preventing you from enjoying the present moment.

Anxiety can stem from various sources of stress, including health issues, emotional turmoil, and financial troubles.

Defined broadly, anxiety refers to a focused and persistent feeling of fear that often exceeds the magnitude of the situations and challenges we typically encounter. Common symptoms of anxiety include insomnia, racing thoughts, difficulty concentrating, irritability, boredom, pallor, trembling, nausea, and sweating.

Like your favourite video game, life presents increasingly challenging obstacles as you advance, and stress levels tend to heighten as you reach pivotal stages or accomplish significant tasks. Nobody is exempt from experiencing stress.

At some point in life, you'll inevitably encounter different forms of anxiety—it's an unavoidable aspect of being alive. It's now widely acknowledged that elevated stress levels can directly precipitate severe anxiety.

Ways to Deal with Unjustified Feelings of Stress

let's now delve into strategies to tackle anxiety head-on. These strategies aim to empower you to effectively navigate the demanding and draining experiences fueled by unwarranted anxiety:

1. Set Realistic Goals

While you may be capable of accomplishing any goal you set, whether it's shedding weight, enhancing relationships, or boosting your income, it's crucial to assess the stress level each endeavour might provoke carefully.

Approach life with the mindset of a perpetual student, consistently absorbing knowledge about people, places, and things. Whether you aspire to bridge distant corners of the world through a novel social media platform or to establish a captivating café in your neighbourhood, confronting certain anxieties is necessary to attain success.

In this regard, set ambitious yet attainable goals for yourself that can be realised through dedication and perseverance.

2. Set Fixed Boundaries

Establishing clear emotional boundaries in your life is crucial. Throughout history, struggle has been an inherent part of the human experience, and as conflicts intensify, so does the level of stress and anxiety.

In addition to improving your physical and spiritual well-being, taking care of your mental health can significantly reduce anxiety symptoms. By setting firm boundaries that define the nature of your relationships with others, you create emotional space to evaluate the value of these relationships according to your standards.

Make sure those around you understand exactly what you are willing to do. This helps you avoid feeling like a victim by setting realistic expectations that can be managed in your interactions with others.

3. Prioritise

Choose your emotional battles wisely, as not every instance of tension needs to escalate into exhausting anxiety. Instead of tackling all the toughest obstacles at once, prioritise and address simpler problems first.

Consider taking control of issues you can handle effectively with minimal effort, allowing momentum to build by starting with your strengths. After overcoming each obstacle in your way, acknowledge your accomplishments and document the progress you've made. Take note of the moments when you summoned your strength and courage to persevere, even in the most challenging and daunting situations.

Reflecting on your achievements should help bolster your self-confidence, much like the lion in "The Wizard of Oz." As you recognise your ability to navigate through periods of stress and overcome challenges, you'll naturally become less anxious.

4. Take Some Rest

When anxiety creeps in without a clear cause, one of the best strategies is to grant yourself some rest. Life isn't a sprint but a marathon, and pacing yourself is key to enduring its challenges.

The secret to a fulfilling life lies in your ability to adapt steadily, avoiding burnout before reaching your goals. Therefore, try not to rush as you navigate through life's obstacles; they're part and parcel of the journey for all of us.

Great empires aren't built overnight; the same goes for your personal growth, regardless of your emotional or professional prowess.

Instead of striving to accomplish all your goals at once and at breakneck speed, consider aiming for manageable milestones along the way. Whether you're facing challenges at home or work, focus on addressing and resolving them calmly, without succumbing to anxiety and panic.

If you find yourself overwhelmed, knowing when to step back is crucial. Sometimes, taking just a brief moment away from the situation can help you regain your composure and approach it with a clearer mind.

5. Talk To Someone

Many of us have experienced a sense of tunnel vision when confronted with major challenges in our lives. We often find ourselves consumed by the circumstances that trouble us, neglecting many other important aspects of our lives in the process.

Drawing from personal experience, I recognise the difficulty in expressing one's innermost feelings, particularly when living a fast-paced life with limited opportunities for introspection. Moreover, coming from a family environment that doesn't foster emotional openness can exacerbate this challenge.

Nevertheless, as a mental health professional and licensed therapist, I've had the privilege of listening to numerous individuals navigating crises.

The research underscores the necessity of dedicating ample time to open up about your deepest fears with the right person. Doing so can be instrumental in overcoming even the most daunting anxiety that may have seemed insurmountable before.

Therapeutic conversation, when consistently pursued, can yield significant benefits. It's essential to delve into the reasons behind your feelings and their origins.

Put simply, to uproot a tree, you must start from its roots. The more you're able to confide in someone about the sources of your anxiety, the less power these issues will hold over your life, empowering you to move forward.

6. Take A Deep Breath

Have you ever experienced such overwhelming anxiety that it left you physically exhausted, emotionally drained, and struggling to catch your breath?

Chances are, you've been through that feeling at some point, as it's a common experience for everyone. Sometimes, anxiety creeps in without a clear trigger. Life's journey is filled with ups and downs, unexpected twists, and insurmountable hurdles.

However, rather than focusing solely on reaching the ultimate destination, perhaps focusing on successfully navigating each challenge and achieving progress while maintaining your mental well-being is more beneficial.

As a child, holding your breath might have worked to get what you wanted, but as an adult, responsibilities like paying bills and nurturing relationships make such strategies obsolete.

In these situations, finding ways to clear your mind and replenish your oxygen is essential, much like the pre-flight instructions: "Secure your mask before assisting others" in case of an oxygen emergency.

In Conclusion

Regardless of how resilient and composed you may be, it's inevitable to experience anxiety at some point in your life, in one form or another.

This accumulated anxiety can lead to a range of debilitating symptoms, negatively impacting your quality of life. Now more than ever, many of us are grappling with anxiety symptoms despite our efforts to control them while also navigating the challenges of our new normal post-pandemic.

By learning how to confront anxiety effectively, we can take a breather to live life more effectively and achieve better outcomes. However, the most logical strategy to reduce stress symptoms is primarily to avoid putting yourself in stressful situations.
