You may be one of the many who sit behind their desk at work waiting for the time to come for them to go home, can't wait to get in your car and head home, and start living the best part of your day, but unfortunately, you often only have a few hours before you go to sleep to get up again and do the same work, so why does that happen?

Note: This article is taken from Erin Falconer's blog, where she talks about aspects of life that are more important than work.

I am aware that everyone has a job to do. I am all for the hard-working culture, but I detest the notion that our work should only be to support our basic needs. I find this to be absurd. It is tragic to spend ninety thousand hours of our lives working at a job that does not even remotely fulfill us, yet this is the reality for many people.

I think finding one's passion and figuring out how to make it into a profitable business is essential. That is possible, and undoubtedly, your job does not define you; it is far from the most critical aspect of your life, yet most people directly link their success to their professional life.

Does earning $350,000 a year make you successful? You might say yes, but what if making that income comes at the expense of spending time with your family? Are you still a successful person if your loved ones can't spend time with you? I don't mean that you leave your job to spend time with your family; I understand that we all have financial obligations, but I mean that we have much more important things than work, so take the time to appreciate these things from today.

6 things that are more important than your work

1. Family

That is undoubtedly obvious, but are you paying enough attention to this aspect? You spend 40 hours a week at work and only 10 hours to spend precious time with your family, so only think about how you spend your weekends. You're exhausted after a long work week, and you barely have the energy to sit on the couch and turn on the TV. Your family needs you, and they need you to come and interact with them.

I had a client who was so rich that he could change his car and get a new one anytime he wanted. I worked with him for many years and felt sad to see the wrong relationship with his two children. He was separated from them. He asked his babysitter to do everything, and he rarely saw them. Of course, he had millions of dollars, but he is addicted to work, so please don't do it. Your family needs you more than you think.

2. Getting out of the house

We live in a noisy world with technology. Our children no longer understand what it means to play outside and are only interested in playing video games. However, going outdoors, meeting people in the sun, seeing the world's beauty, and breathing fresh air are the essence of happiness. You can only feel joy when you do these things, but the sad truth is that most of us rarely do these things.

We go out of our homes to get in the car, then to the office, and then back again, so plan to get out of the house for 20 minutes a day, relax on one of the park seats, and allow the fresh breeze to caress your hair, and breathe the smell of nature, because one day we will grow up, and we will not be able to appreciate these beautiful things that life offers us, so take advantage of these things when you can do so.

3. Your health

You may or may not agree, but your work affects your health. You are slowly dying because of a 30- or 40-year career in which you do a boring job that does not stimulate your mind. How would you feel if you woke up eagerly waiting to go to work? It's feasible to love your work and experience vibrancy you've never experienced.

Working behind a desk all day is tacky for your health and has been connected to several illnesses. So, if your work is in the office, be sure to take enough breaks, walk, or stretch, pay attention to your diet, and remember that no matter how successful you are in your career, you will not enjoy life if you are sick, so take care of your health first.

4. Your time

Time is the most precious thing you have. However, you waste your time as if you have a lot of it. People only care to spend part of the week working on things that bore a lot and do not benefit them. I may feel sad when I see people queuing for 40 minutes to fill their cars with fuel to save some money. People do not know that the time they spend waiting is more valuable than the money they save.

We run out of time quickly, and this is the truth. You will wake up at 70 and wonder how the best days of your life have passed; the same applies to your career, so start appreciating the time you have to use wisely. Of course, it is not wise to work in a profession that has meant nothing to you for 20 years, so find what excites you most and practice it daily if possible; this is the goal of life.

5. Your goal

Do you know what your purpose in life is? Most people do not devote their time to discovering their goal; Rather, they spend their lives working in jobs they have chosen at random, which may or may not be suitable for them, all to collect some money that is only enough to pay their bills.

Your goal

What if you gave yourself enough time to reflect on yourself and discovered what drives you to realize your full potential? What motivates you? And what did you do well? Answer these questions and start pursuing a greater goal. I will not tell you that we all have a lofty aim in life, but I believe we can all do immortal things in different fields. However, we must first discover our values and what interests us.

6. Your Relationships

We get jobs and lose them, but a strong friendship lasts forever, and we often forget about the people who mean a lot to us when we are busy with our daily responsibilities. We put off getting in touch with them, we forget that time flies, and the "next month" date turns into the following year, and so on. So commit to intercommunicating with one of your friends whom you last communicated with a while ago. The quality of your life reflects the quality of your relationships, so maintain your relationships.

In conclusion

Remember that your job is only part of your life. If you love your job, that's great, but most people don't like their jobs. If you belong to the majority, get a job you love or at least tend to your other responsibilities.
